This reflects the deepest belief of my Catholic faith: that when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his friends for the last time before his death, he shared with the world what would become the true source of our spiritual growth, his own physical presence under the guise of bread and wine. This Eucharist which we share at mass is not a mere reenactment of those events 2000 years ago, but is true food for our journey here on earth. This concept is just as foreign to our limited human thinking now as it was then --- which is precisely why some of his followers chose to leave him at that point. Though it personally took me decades to come to accept this mystery, I am blessed to believe in it now.
